This handgun safety class qualifies as the required training for obtaining a MD Handgun Qualification License (HQL) and also serves as the first 8 hours of 16 hours of training to obtain a concealed carry (MD or DC) permit. The course has a classroom portion (8 AM - 1:00 PM) and a range portion (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) and students must pass both the classroom test (open book) and range qualification for certification. The classroom section covers the following topics:
safe gun handling
ammunition types
fundamentals of shooting
WAC ranges and rules
shooting positions
scoring targets
firearm maintenance
overview of MD law
For the range portion participants will use instructor’s 22 caliber pistols and ammunition to qualify from 8 yards on a 9-inch pie plate target.
Cost $150, which includes re-qualification for the range portion, if needed.
